Evaluating the degree of corrosivity of the environment hosting the steel structure is fundamental for choosing the protective treatment system (ISO 12944).
The internationally recognized ISO 12944 standard indicates how:
- evaluate the degree of corrosiveness of the environment hosting the structure,
- select the expected duration of the coating,
- select the most suitable protective treatment system.
The corrosivity of the environment is categorized as follows (conditions below 120°C):
- C1 negligible: heated rooms, public and private (schools, hotels, etc.),
- low C2: rural and low-pollution areas, unheated rooms where condensation can form (warehouses, sports centres, etc.),
- medium C3: urban and industrial areas, with moderate pollution or low salt concentration, places with high humidity and some air pollution (breweries, dairies, etc.),
- Severe C4: industrial areas, coastal areas with moderate salt concentrations, chemical plants, swimming pools, houseboats, etc,
- C5 – I extreme industrial: industrial areas with high humidity and aggressive climate, areas with always present condensation and heavy pollution,
- C5 – M extreme maritime: coastal and off-shore areas with high salt concentration, areas with always present condensation and heavy pollution.
We have been in business since 1974 and are experts in applying highly protective treatments to steel structures found in marine environments and aggressive outdoor conditions.
